FAQ

Tobacco sticks

What is the composition of the heated tobacco product filter?
Part of the heated tobacco product filter is made from a plant-based material – corn resin – which decomposes naturally. In the production of the filter, the corn mass is processed into thin sheets and then crimped into shape so that it gradually cools the inhaled vapors. Thus, the main role of this material is to cool down the aerosol and absorb potentially harmful chemicals.

Is it true that heated tobacco product filter melts and fuses?
False. IQOS owners note that the color and texture of the filter change at the end of the heating cycle. This is a natural process. During use, corn resin molecules are first exposed to a warm aerosol. It passes through the filter, cools the vapor and removes the excess water.

How heated tobacco products were adjusted for smoother heating experiences?
Feedback from some IQOS users was gathered across different countries, saying that inserting the heated tobacco product can sometimes be hard.

Based on this feedback the production of the heated tobacco was adjusted. We changed the way tobacco is folded inside the product. These changes gave more space between the tobacco layers making the insertion of the product and air-flow during the heating cycle easier. The tobacco quality, the types of heated tobacco products or the length of the heating cycle did not change.

The heated tobacco products will be gradually changed in the beginning of 2021, depending on the point of sale. More about the change: HERE.
